Tell us about your childhood and where you grew up

I grew up in the country outside the small town of Albion, Nebraska in the Midwest. Growing up as the oldest of four siblings, I developed a strong sense of responsibility and independence at a young age. Due to an accident where my mom was severely injured, I began to help raise my younger siblings at the age of 11. It taught me valuable skills such as organization, time management, and leadership. My parents were always pushing and encouraging me to never settle.

How did you get started as an entrepreneur?

I had to work multiple jobs alongside her husband just to make ends meet and pay the rent. However, her determination and passion for art never wavered. Along with my husband, I took the initiative to open their first art studio in the basement of their home back in 2003. Through hard work and perseverance, we were able to turn that small home-based studio into a thriving art business with over 10 employees.

What is one business lesson you would tell a startup founder?

I’m a firm believer in the importance of hard work and delegation. As an entrepreneur, it is important to focus on your strengths and hire for areas where you may not be as strong. Time is money and it’s better to focus on what you do best and delegate the rest to someone who is an expert in that field. This approach has helped me to grow my business, improve efficiency and ultimately save time, effort, and money.
