Tell us about your childhood and where you grew up

I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. I speak a few languages, including English, Cantonese, and some French. I have always been interested in math and sciences and participated in numerous competitions in elementary and high school.

How did you get started as an entrepreneur?

I’ve also been interested in technology and have worked for many tech companies as head of finance. I’ve noticed a gap in the accounting sector, where things are quite traditional and “old school”. Many accounting firms have been around for decades and haven’t really taken the time to review their tech stack. I started AgileCPA Professional Corporation to launch a modern, tech savvy accounting firm. My team is fully virtual and we utilize a lot of technology to enhance our workflow and communication with clients.

What is one business lesson you would tell a startup founder?

After running my business for 5 years, I recommend startup founders have a plan. It is very important to ensure the business stays on track and tackles the issues that are the highest priorities. This is also very important to ensure founders don’t burn out. As a founder, they tend to wear many hats and the work can get out of hand. Stay focused and work on items that are key initiatives for the next 2 months.
